It was so exciting to be part of this photo shoot at Casa Azul Profundo recently. The producers of Get Out!, a Travel & Adventure reality show about "the most beautiful places on the planet," were in the area to do a film shoot with Vallarta Adventures at Mismaloya beach and in the nearby jungles. They wanted to profile one of the beautiful villas in Puerto Vallarta to contrast what travelers can experience, from one extreme to the other. The crew spent their days on sea and land safaris including kayaking and snorkeling off the villa's shoreline over to the islands of Los Arcos, only to return "home" to be pampered by a masseuse I had arranged for them. Sumptuous bedrooms awaited them, in contrast to a sleepover the girls endured in Pizota where they were taught jungle survival skills.
A Mexican fiesta prepared by Casa Azul Profundo's Chef Carlos, complete with a mariachi band and authentic Mexican fare, topped off their Puerto Vallarta experience. Owners of Casa Valerie, Villa Karon, Casa Marylou and others joined in the festivities.
We had a lot of fun doing this. I had been asked to keep this a "mysterious" event and, as a result, after we left, we heard via the grapevine that Leonardo DeCaprio was staying at the villa and that "they were making a movie . . . ."
It brought back memories of when Puerto Vallarta was young, and John Huston was everywhere, shooting Night of the Iguana and other hot movies. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were all we could talk about in those days. I vividly remember having to cover my house on Mismaloya hillside with canvas to hide it for the filming of The Swashbuckler. And tourists can still climb into the helicopter wreckage from a scene in Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger that sits at the entrance to the wonderful outdoor restaurant El Eden, just past the native town of Mismaloya.
